Valentine's Day sounds like a fun holiday, right? A time to honor and celebrate our love for one another. However, it can be a less than happy time for those that are not in a happy relationship or are wishing to have one. Here are some tips from an e-mail I received from the Reflective Happiness Center...
- Valentine’s Day celebrates love, not couples. The lack of a significant other does not mean that you lack love. Send cards and make phone calls to close family members. Get together with people you love and reciprocate that love.
- Think of the positive things that have happened in your life recently. Gratitude is a powerful force. If you focus on the positive experiences you’ve had throughout your day, week, year, or lifetime, you are more likely to develop an optimistic outlook on life and attract similar people.
- Foster happiness from within. Remind yourself of the qualities and character strengths you possess that you want recognized in a relationship. If you truly feel good about yourself, that confidence will show, and people will notice.
- If you’re happy being single — rejoice! If you’d like to be in a relationship — reflect. This could be a good day to take stock of what you want out of a future relationship, or if being in a relationship is what you really want.
- Act as a substitute Valentine. Spend time with a grandparent or someone close to you that may have recently experienced a loss. Comforting others and helping make them feel good is a great way to feel good about yourself.
To all of you reading... Happy Valentine's Day! Celebrate love for one another, love for life, and love for God!
