He's one of my family's 'patron saints'...I especially entrust my husband to his care and protection. You are in good hands with him.

Argent

Hector, I'm happy for your insight. What a wonderful answer to prayer. God's grace is wonderfully at work in your life.

My awareness of St. Joseph is only just beginning. My pastor last Sunday talked about St. Joseph being the head of the Holy Family and that the Son of God willingly subjected Himself to him. I'm meditating on that kind of perfect obedience. In obedience is happiness. That's not a popular thing in our culture but is the medicine for our sickness.

I have a very close relationship with St. Joseph. It comes from the Italian in me. One of my favorite prayers is to raise my mind at four times during the day and think on his four virtues.

Fidelity to Grace (open to God's will)
Interior life (His focus on God)
Love of Mary
Love of Jesus

It just lets me understand him better. At each time I say a Hail Mary or an our Father.

There is a great book:

Saint Joseph: His Life and His Role in the Church Today
by Louise Bourassa Perrotta

And here is a website with alot of good prayers:

Hector - here is my favorite St. Joseph prayer. Blessings!

Oh Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great,
so strong, so prompt, before the Throne of GOD,
I place before you, all my interest and desires.

Oh Saint Joseph, do assist me by your powerful
intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son,
all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So having engaged here below your heavenly power,
I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most
loving of Fathers.

Oh Saint Joseph, I never weary contemplating you,
and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach
while he reposes near your heart. Press Him in my
name and kiss His fine head for me and ask Him
to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath.
Saint Joseph, Patron of departing souls - Pray for me.

Hector

Essy, Argent, Renee, and davidnic, thanks so much for your comments, wisdom, and prayers on St. Joseph. I'm going to be saying the prayers you mentioned and i will most definitely order the book. I'm in St. Louis, MO this week. It;s my first time here, so I was looking at a map of downtown to go sightseeing. The first thing that jumped at me was a spot marked that said "Shring to St. Joseph" Unbeliavable! I think he is truly wanting to get my attention, perhaps I need to develop his four virtues and he will help me. I'm definitely visiting the shrine tomorrow.

As a good Protestant (grin!)I'd say that it's the spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) who is getting your attention and it is Jesus who intercedes for you (and who better?)

but there is also something in me that rejoices that your prayer life is being challenged and as you responded to that - God met you - with an unexpected answer - and both peace and excitement, and above all a great desire to pray. It's wonderful:)

May the Lord guide you, and help you press in in prayer.

Do write about the shrine to St Joseph too.

I think you are also a man of God Hector. Unique and very much loved of the Father. It's great you have St J as a role model. He'd be a good one for any of us when you look at his virtues. (thanks David)

*Fidelity to Grace (open to God's will)
*Interior life (His focus on God)
*Love of Mary
*Love of Jesus

It could be summed up in a different way:
*Love of God,
*love of Mary,
*love of Jesus &
openness to the (prompting of the) Holy Spirit

Be blessed. Don't forget to tell us about the shrine!
