I'm so excited! I just received my first issue of the Magnificat spiritual guide for the month of October. I've been looking in the mailbox every day for weeks. It looks awesome! I can't wait for October 1st so that I can use it to guide me through my daily prayer practice.

Magnificat has a Liturgical Calendar for the month, editorials and short articles by theologians (October's has one by Cardinal Avery Dulles, S.J.), short quotes by many saints, and two options for Night Prayer (examination of conscience/prayer, hymn, psalm, scripture passage, canticle of Simeon, prayer, blessing, and Marian antiphon).
Then for each day, it has "Prayer for the Morning" (hymn, Psalm, scripture, canticle of Zechariah, intercessions, and closing prayer), the prayers and readings for the daily mass, and a short daily meditation by a saint or people like Thomas Merton or Henry Nouwen.
Also for the day it has "Prayer for the Evening" (hymn, Psalm, scripture, canticle of Mary, intercessions, and Marian antiphon). As a reference, the guide also has the Order of Mass and the prayers for Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction. All of this in a small booklet that could easily fit in a purse or coat pocket.
For a daily prayer guide I typically use a book called "Medjugorje Day by Day" which has messages from Mary, scripture passages, and a meditation or the Liturgy of the Hours. Magnificat has a lot of the prayers from the Liturgy of the Hours (I don't think it has all of them), except that everything has already been selected for that day, considering feasts. By the way, few things make me happier than to see my daughter's worn and wrinkled "Medjugorje Day by Day prayer book"...
What daily prayer resources is everyone else using?
I LOVE this magazine, too. I let my subscription run out, but with this reminder will renew very soon. Happy reading!
